CAPCOG Air Quality Program seeks fleet emissions partnerships

CAPCOG’s Air Quality Program is seeking Clean Air Coalition members interested in participating in a program that will install fleet monitoring devices and software on vehicles to track emissions, so the region can better understand of how local fleets impact on-road emissions in the Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown Metropolitan Statistical Area. Data collected from the program will refine emissions models used for air quality planning which can be implemented to aid in reducing air pollution and protecting residents’ health.

CAPCOG is gaging participation interest, so it can finish scoping the program and purchase the required equipment. There will be no cost for local governments to participate, they will just need to share the gathered data with CAPCOG. Participation also may help fleet managers better manage their fleets and their deployment, as the devices and software also track vehicle speed, idling and idling cost, average miles per gallon, fuel consumption and vehicle run time. CAPCOG anticipates the program will start collecting data by late fall 2022.

This program is being funded through state air quality monies CAPCOG receives from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. To learn more about participating, contact Anton Cox, CAPCOG air quality program manager.
