Austin Region EDA Director to speak to General Assembly

The Regional Director for the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Austin Regional Office, Jorge Ayala, will address the CAPCOG General Assembly during its meeting at 11:30 a.m. September 14 at the Hilton Austin Airport, 9515 Hotel Drive in Austin. Ayala and his EDA staff work closely with regional organizations such as CAPCOG to develop and manage investments to support jobs, private investment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global competitiveness in a five-state region that includes Texas.

“EDA is one of the best regional partners that COGs have, and we are exceptionally fortunate that the five-state regional office is here in Austin,” explained Betty Voights who noted that CAPCOG’s ability to work at a local and regional level on economic and community development issues is made possible by the EDA three planning grants CAPCOG receives. “Jorge and his staff have been great partners for us; they are efficient in getting funding out, responsive when we have need help, and support networking opportunities among all of the EDDs in the Austin region.”

At the meeting, the CAPCOG General Assembly also will consider CAPCOG’s Fiscal Year 2022-23 Budget, a bylaws amendment regarding the agency’s official data source for population, and elect the Nominating Committee, a committee required by the bylaws that will recommend a slate of self-nominated local elected officials to serve as CAPCOG 2023 Executive Committee. The proposed slate will be voted upon at the December General Assembly Meeting.
