CAPCOG accepts comments on CDBG MIT-MOD

CAPCOG is in the public comment period to finalize use of HUD CDBG Disaster Mitigation funding in partnership with the region’s four eastern counties — Bastrop, Caldwell, Fayette and Lee. Two public hearings have been scheduled to get input on the conditionally – approved Preliminary Method of Distribution (MOD) Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds for the most impacted and distressed areas of those counties. The hearings will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. March 22 at the Fayette County EMS Station, 1721 North Von Minden Road in La Grange; and 10 a.m. to noon March 23 at CAPCOG, 6800 Burleson Road, Building 310, Suite 165, in Austin. Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. March 31 by emailing [email protected] or by mailing CAPCOG.

The CDBG MIT-MOD will provide $52,253,000 in federal financial assistance for necessary expenses related to mitigation project activities for several disasters that have occurred in the most impacted and distressed areas included in the CDBG MIT-MOD.

This is the second round of public hearings on the CDBG MIT-MOD; the first helped develop elements of the preliminary CDBG MIT-MOD. Input from these hearings and participation acceptance letters from local jurisdictions in the area will be compiled by CAPCOG to determine the final distribution of funding and eligible project types that will then be sent to the Texas General Land Office (GLO) for approval. The GLO has contracted with CAPCOG to draft the CDBG MIT-MOD.

The public hearings also are being offered virtually. CAPCOG recommends registering at https://training.capcog.org/homeland-security/ to attend virtually, so it can distribute an attendance link before the hearings occur.
