The Office of the Governor’s Public Safety Office allocated about $2.8 million to the CAPCOG region from its Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program, and CAPCOG is encouraging all cities and counties to apply for the funding to help prevent, prepare and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The application deadline is June 15.
This funding opportunity is different than the U.S. Department of Justice’s CESF program and is prioritizing funds that assist first responders in coping with the immediate impact of the pandemic. Its funds can be used for projects and purchases that include overtime, equipment, supplies, training, travel expenses, and addressing the medical needs of inmates in local and tribal jails and detention centers. The funding also can pay for expenses incurred since Feb. 1, 2020.
Twenty-one cities and counties from the region already are working on applications, and the Office of the Governor has stated they will work closely with the COGs to ensure a fair distribution of funds.
