CAPCOG equips communities with 9-1-1 educational materials

National Night Out, an annual campaign for making neighborhoods safer through community and police partnerships, traditionally occurs the first Tuesday in October for Texas cities. To help residents understand the role of emergency telecommunicators in that partnership, CAPCOG is supplying local jurisdictions with educational materials about calling 9-1-1 for the local community events.

“It’s important for residents to know what information is most valuable to emergency telecommunicators so they can help save significant time in dispatching the proper response to a correct location,” said Gregg Obuch, CAPCOG Emergency Communications director. CAPCOG distributes 9-1-1 educational materials all year to local public safety answering points, or 9-1-1 call centers, and law enforcement agencies, but National Night Out provides a great opportunity to reach more residents as public safety officials visit neighborhood block parties and community-wide events.
