CAPCOG recommends criminal justice grant projects to OOG

The CAPCOG Executive Committee recommended a prioritized list of project applications seeking state criminal justice grant funding to the Office of the Governor (OOG) during its April meeting. Based on the state’s regional budget estimate, the list recommended 35 projects to receive full or partial funding across the five grant categories CAPCOG reviews for the OOG. However, the OOG will make the final decision on project awards and can award more or less than the regional budget estimate; CAPCOG anticipates award announcements in August.

The state’s regional budget estimate for the 10-county area was nearly $10.6 million while organizations submitted 56 project applications seeking more than $13.7 million from the grant programs — Criminal Justice Program; General Victim Assistance – Direct Services Program; Violence Against Women Justice and Training Program; Juvenile Justice and Truancy Prevention Grant Program.

Preceding the Executive Committees priority recommendations, CAPCOG’s Criminal Justice Advisory Committee reviewed the applications and heard applicant presentations before scoring and ranking them based on state and regional funding priorities. The prioritized recommendation list can be viewed at capcog.org/transparency/transparency-reports. CAPCOG also scored five Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation program applications requesting more than $2.7 million; the state asked for them not to be ranked.
