CAPCOG supports 11 projects with solid waste grants

The CAPCOG Executive Committee selected 11 projects from around the region to receive a portion of this biennium’s $264,000 allocation from TCEQ for the agency’s Solid Waste Grant Program. The grants will fund eight community collection events, three scrape tire collection events and three household hazardous waste collection events; aid operations at two collections facilities; and help fund enforcement of environmental crimes.

The CAPCOG Solid Waste Grant Program supports solid waste diversion infrastructure and helps prevent illegal dumping while increasing waste reduction and the reuse and recycling of materials. For the 2022-23 biennium, CAPCOG allocated an additional $40,000 to the grant program compared the previous biennium. While none of grants will fully fund projects, they will assist off-setting local costs making more events possible throughout the region.

Before being selected by the Executive Committee, grant project applications were reviewed and ranked by the CAPCOG Solid Waste Advisory Committee. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality provides a final approval for the selected projects, which is expected to be completed by late April.
