The next Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) to be held by CAPCOG’s Regional Law Enforcement Academy (RLEA) is planned to commence on August 29 at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy A.W. Grimes Law Enforcement Training Center. CAPCOG is still accepting cadets sponsored by local policing agencies for the 9-month, part-time, night course.
“Even a part-time basic peace officer course seems like a fulltime job, but this profession is extremely rewarding and worth the effort,” said David Bertling, RLEA director. “Bringing the course to WilCo Sheriff’s facilities makes it more accessible to residents in the northern part of the region where several of our fastest growing communities are.”
Night courses run from 6 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. They provide more than 1,000 hours of instruction and cadets graduate with their basic peace officer license and peace officer certifications such as OC Spray and ASP Baton. In May and June, CAPCOG graduated 35 cadets from two BPOCs. Another 17 cadets are scheduled to graduate from a third BPOC in October continuing the tradition of every CAPCOG cadet passing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Basic Peace Officer Exam.
