The CAPCOG Criminal Justice Advisory Committee (CJAC) will conduct its grant scoring meetings on April 14, 15, 16, online instead of in person due to COVID-19 concerns allowing each grant applicant to present their projects to the committee. Instructions for joining the virtual meeting will be distributed on April 6 with a presentation schedule; they also will be posted at capcog.org so the public can attend.
After hearing and discussing the presentations, the CJAC will score projects based on CAPCOG’s regional priorities. The CJAC will score the Violence Against Women Justice and Training Program applications the morning of April 14, the General Victims Assistant Direct Services Program applications the afternoon of April 14, the Criminal Justice Program applications on April 15, and the Juvenile Justice and Truancy Prevention Grant Program applications on April 16. The CAPCOG Executive Committee will review the CJAC’s funding recommendations before finalizing them at its May 13 meeting.
For the 2021 plan year, the state received 56 grant applications requesting more than $11.3 million in projects for the four grant programs CAPCOG helps coordinate. The state’s regional budget estimate is near $8.99 million. Last year for the 2020 plan year, the state funded 38 projects for about $8.1 million based on CAPCOG’s recommendations, but the truancy prevention program was not part of CAPCOG’s prioritization process at the time.
