CAPCOG solicits Executive Committee nominations

CAPCOG is seeking nominations from General Assembly Representatives interested in serving on the 2021 Executive Committee, which meets the second Wednesday of every month starting in January to provide CAPCOG staff with direction on program implementation, budgets, contracts and general policies and procedures for managing the agency. The deadline to submit a self-nomination is September 25.

To self-nominate, the person must be a city or county elected official from a CAPCOG member jurisdiction and be serving as a General Assembly representative. If an elected official is not a General Assembly representative and wishes to serve, their governing body must appoint them as such before CAPCOG’s December 9th General Assembly. Self-nominated representatives must select a position for which they qualify and plan to fill from one of the following categories:

  • two representatives from Travis County
  • a county position from the other nine counties
  • a City of Austin position
  • a position from a city with a population in excess of 100,000
  • four positions from cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000
  • five positions from cities with populations under 25,000
  • three at-large positions

Nominations to serve on the Executive Committee are not made by the governing body but directly from the elected official, according to CAPCOG’s Executive Director Betty Voights, because it is a commitment by the individual to actively participate. Self-nominations will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee, which will be elected at the September 9th General Assembly, and a recommended slate of Executive Committee members will be considered at the December 9th General Assembly. CAPCOG also welcomes self-nominations from state legislators representing the region.
