CAPCOG will conduct three mandatory grant workshop for local jurisdictions planning to apply for 2020 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) funding, which provides money for disaster planning, regional training exercises, and public safety tactical and response equipment. A fourth workshop will instruct nonprofits about applying for the State’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program. All workshops will be held December 10 and 12 with morning and afternoon options at CAPCOG, 6800 Burleson Road, Building 310 Suite 165, in Austin.
The first of the three mandatory workshops will be geared towards applicants who have not previously sought an SHSP grant. It will cover topics about entity and project eligibility, application requirements, and federal and state rules. The following two workshops will be a condensed version of the initial workshop, but will focus on key changes to SHSP in 2020. In 2019, about 20 projects in the CAPCOG region were awarded about $1.2 in SHSP funding; CAPCOG anticipates about the same level funding during this grant cycle. The Office of the Governor tentatively plans to release the grant’s request of applications on December 13.
The Nonprofit Security Grant workshop will cover applying for the grant and navigating the State’s Egrants system. This grant program supports nonprofit and religious organizations which have a high risk of terrorist attacks because of their ideology, beliefs or mission. Grant funds can be used to equip facilities with security provisions, to construct or renovate facilities to enhance security, or to provide training to their security personnel.
