Homeland Security visits Education Service Center Region 13

The Texas Region 13 Education Service Center invited CAPCOG Homeland Security Director, Martin Ritchey, to discuss with school district officials a myriad of emergency management topics and the latest state requirements on emergency preparedness and response for education facilities. The opportunity to speak with the group builds on efforts to strengthen collaboration and regional partnerships for preparing for and responding to disasters.

“School districts and their schools are a large part of our communities,” Ritchey said. “When a school or district faces an emergency, that affects the entire community, so it is vital for emergency management and public safety officials to have that relationship.” Many local public safety agencies and school districts practice preparedness together; expanding that to a regional level lets more organizations understand each others’ needs and build and connect resources that could save lives during a disaster.

The Region 13 Education Service Center consists of school districts in the 10-county CAPCOG region plus those in an additional six counties. The Deputy Executive Director of the Region 13 Education Service Center, Craig Spinn, currently is serving as a member of the CAPCOG Homeland Security Task Force.
