Newly elected Executive Committee votes on officers

CAPCOG’s newly elected Executive Committee held its first 2023 meeting on January 11 when its members elected the board’s officers, who also serve as the agency’s budget, audit and strategic planning committee. The officers begin meeting in February with the executive director and finance staff to develop the agency’s budget for the Capital Area Emergency Communications District (CAECD) followed by the agency’s budget that incorporates the CAECD. The officers also take the lead on policy issues as well as broader strategic issues as needed.

Each year in September, CAPCOG’s Nominating Committee recommended the Executive Committee membership along with the officers; the 2023 recommendations included Burnet County Judge James Oakley as the board’s chair, Lockhart Mayor Lew White as first vice chair, Hays County Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe as second vice chair, and Round Rock Council Member Matt Baker as secretary. San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson will remain parliamentarian, and Taylor Mayor Brandt Rydell will serve as the board’s immediate past chair.

Joining the board for the first time after the December General Assembly election is Bastrop County Commissioner Clara Beckett, Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller, Travis County Judge Andy Brown, and City of Blanco Mayor Rachel Lumpee. Also elected to the board as non-voting state legislators are District 24 Senator Pete Flores and District 17 Representative Stan Gerdes. State Representative Terry Wilson of District 20 was re-elected to sit on the CAPCOG board.
