RLEA hosts interviewing, TXDOT drug & alcohol courses

The CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy will conduct a Basic Forensic Narrative Analysis course to teach investigators interviewing techniques that can help ascertain important case information from suspects, witnesses and victims. The 40-hour course led by a former Texas Department of Public Safety investigator will be from January 13 to January 17 at CAPCOG, 6800 Burleson Road, Building 310, Suite 165 in Austin.

Officers who take the course will learn statement analysis that is applicable to the investigative process and helps determine if someone is withholding information, as well as how to use language to assist victims and witnesses in recalling details.

Texas Department of Transportation will hold two courses at CAPCOG focused on educating peace officers, educators and those who work with youth and young adults about recognizing drug and alcohol abuse. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (ADAPT) and Focus on Reducing Impaired Driving Among Youth (FRIDAY) programs are free, 8-hour courses that cover topics such as the alcoholic beverage code and DWI regulations, alcohol and drug’s effect on brain development, and related investigation techniques and enforcement options. During the courses, attendees will learn how to recognize counterfeit IDs, the concealment of drugs and alcohol, and drug and alcohol trends among the youth. The ADAPT program focuses on educational institutions’ awareness of the issue by also covering Title IX information and school and college campus enforcement strategies. FRIDAY will take place on February 7 and ADAPT will be on February 13. TCOLE and Continuing Professional Educator (CPE) credit are available for both courses.
