The CAPCOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy opened enrollment for in-service courses scheduled for July and is continuing to fill spots for a June and possibly September basic peace officer course (BPOC). CAPCOG suspended its in-service courses and BPOC testing through June as part of it’s COVID-19 safety precautions.
Slated in-service courses include a 40-hour Basic Instructor course beginning July 13; two, 2-hour Civilian Interaction Training courses set for July 28; a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Training beginning August 3; and a 40-hour Mental Health Officer course scheduled for August 17. The Civilian Interaction Training and Crisis Intervention Training are state-mandated courses, while the instructor and mental health officer courses are meant to advance officers’ careers through specialization.

CAPCOG also held a BPOC entrance exam on May 15. A second exam is taking place on July 10 at CAPCOG with social distancing measures in place. While it is too late for prospective cadets to test into the full-time, day BPOC starting June 22, CAPCOG is accepting agency sponsored cadets. Local jurisdictions should contact Terri Kroeger to secure a June position. Agencies also are welcome to register cadets for part-time, night course in September. People who take and pass the upcoming July 10 exam will reserve a spot in the latter course.
