Solid waste grant workshops provide insight into funding

The CAPCOG Solid Waste Program kicked off its two-year grant cycle by scheduling three grant workshops to assist local governments, school districts and other government districts in applying for the program’s funding. The first workshop will be on Dec. 14, 2021 at 402 West 8th Street in Georgetown with following workshops on Jan. 7, 2022 at 106 Royston in Smithville and Jan. 14, 2022 at 607 North Vandeveer Street in Burnet.

The grant program is estimated to provide $244,000 in pass-through funding to communities in the CAPCOG 10-county region for solid waste related projects that could include household hazardous waste collection events, illegal dump site clean-up, permanent collection facilities and more. Each workshop will cover grant eligibility, the grant selection process, completing an application, funding categories, funding standards, and project reporting.

The grant uses state funding generated from selected landfill tipping fees, which allows Texas councils of governments to support eligible projects within its jurisdiction that help implement the regional solid waste management plan.
