TxDOT announces bike, sidewalk funding program

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced its 2021 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA) Program Call for Projects and applications workshop dates in January. The deadline to apply for the program will be March 1.

The program provides funding for construction of a variety of alternative transportation projects, including ADA/pedestrian infrastructure, on- and off-street bikeways, shared use paths, infrastructure for non-driver access to public transportation, and access for non-motorized roadway users, including safe routes to schools. TxDOT administers TA funds for locally sponsored bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects in communities less than 200,000. The Call for Projects is a two-step application process with the preliminary application for high-level proposed project information to determine eligibility and identify potential project development issues. The second step is a detailed application with more comprehensive project information.

TxDOT will hold three virtual application workshops to discuss applying for the TA program. There are scheduled as follows:

  • Jan. 21, 2021 (1:00PM – 4:00PM)
    Register
  • Jan. 25, 2021 (1:00PM – 4:00PM)
    Register
  • Jan. 27, 2021 (9:00AM – 12:00PM)
    Register

For question about the workshops contact, TA Program Coordinator, Noah Heath.

Questions about the TA funding program or applications should be submitted during a virtual workshop or emailed to [email protected] by Jan. 28, 2021. Questions about project eligibility or Transportation Development Credit eligibility may be emailed to [email protected]. Local TxDOT district staff are available to discuss project-specific issues. Potential project sponsors are encouraged to review the program guide, preliminary application form/instructions, and rules in consideration of their candidate project prior to contacting TxDOT with questions.
